SOMETIMES GOOD DEEDS GET REWARDED

As a result of a reversal of policy of the U.S. Justice Department, U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff returned to an administrative panel designed to investigate recurrent problems in quality of forensic evidence in criminal courts throughout the country. Previously, Judge Rakoff resigned in protest, criticizing the Justice Department for muzzling its work in the investigation to benefit prosecutors, and not seeking to fulfill its mission to insure fairness.
